Biocompatible and Sterilisable Parts
Testing conducted by Formlabs for common use cases is intended to instil confidence that this material is suitable for biocompatible applications.
Applications*
Use BioMed Black Resin for producing rigid parts for point-of-care and medical manufacturing applications requiring biocompatibility and a matte finish.
Medical devices and device components, biocompatible moulds, jigs, and fixtures
End-use parts requiring patient contact and consumer goods
*Unlike Formlabs Dental Resins, no intended uses are provided for BioMed Resins. Material properties may vary based on part design, manufacturing practices, and other methods. It is the manufacturer’s responsibility and its respective customers and end-users to determine the biocompatibility and performance of all printed parts for their respective application and use. To instil confidence in potential users, Formlabs has tested biocompatibility and sterilisation compatibility for common use cases and manufactures BioMed Resins in an ISO 13485 certified facility.
Manufactured in an ISO 13485-Certified Facility
Formlabs manufactures its BioMed and Medical Device Resins at its FDA-registered facility in Ohio. These materials are designed and manufactured within a robust Quality Management System that is ISO 13485 and EU MDR certified. A dedicated team of operators and quality assurance professionals makes the resins inside a certified ISO Class 8 clean room. All Medical Device Resins are appropriately registered with the FDA and CE marked according to the EU MDR.

1 Material properties may vary based on part geometry, print orientation, print settings, temperature, and disinfection or sterilisation methods used.
2 Data were measured on post-cured samples printed on a Form 3B with 100um BioMed Black Resin settings, washed in a Form Wash for 5 minutes in 99% isopropyl alcohol.
3 BioMed Black Resin was tested at NAMSA World Headquarters, OH, USA.
Post-Processing
Washing
BioMed Black Resin may be washed using either a Formlabs-validated wash unit or an ultrasonic wash unit.
The foundational step in any SLA post-processing workflow is to remove excess resin on the surface of the parts through an alcohol wash. Please refer to the material's manufacturing guide/IFU for washing instructions.
